The cheapest regular price for Xfinity internet service is $20 per month for speeds up to 50 Mbps, but you can pay as much as $300 per month for speeds up to 6 Gbps (6,000 Mbps). That expensive option is probably unnecessary for most families, but it may be worth it if you need the fastest speeds possible—for example, if you have several users transferring large files over network-attached storage or downloading or streaming a lot of 4K content. Learn more about why you may not need multi-gig speeds at home.
We gave Xfinity four out of five stars on value based on prices at different speeds. We particularly liked the plan with speeds up to 400 Mbps, which is plenty of bandwidth for even a large household and priced right at $50 per month.
Xfinity lost points for using coaxial cables instead of fiber-optic cables between its neighborhood infrastructure and your front door, meaning your upload speeds won’t be nearly as fast as download speeds. We weren’t thrilled about extra fees, either, but still think Xfinity is a good choice in most areas.
Most real Xfinity customers are happy about the price for internet plans, but they are less satisfied with pricing for cable TV. If they do complain, it’s about prices going up after the first year or two of service. People also say that Xfinity internet is reliable and customer service is improving, but add that it’s the only option for high speed internet where they live.

There are two main things to be aware of when switching to Xfinity internet service. The first is that a professional installation may cost you either $40 or $100, unless you qualify for certain promotions. Self-installation is usually free. The second is that some plans require a 12-month contract. This is shorter than the traditional two-year contract, but many providers have moved away from these service agreements entirely, so it’s disappointing to see it with Xfinity. Learn about ways to save on your internet bill.
If you're not on a contract, you can expect a two-year price lock with an increase of fees of about $10 in year three.
Xfinity offers different promotions in different areas. Some of the best we’ve seen are internet for just $10 per month for certain low-income families and internet for $25 per month plus taxes and fees in highly competitive areas. To find out if you qualify, you’ll need to give Xfinity your home address and phone number, and you may have to authorize a credit check.
There are deals for university students and Veterans of the US Armed Forces as well, with the option for bill credits or money to shop the Xfinity on-demand library, but qualification standards apply.
Bundling is the name of the game with Xfinity internet. In addition to home internet, the company also offers cable TV, mobile phone service, home security, and home phone service. If you bundle your internet and mobile phone, it may be possible to get both for around $60 per month. If you bundle internet with cable TV, you could pay around $70 per month with a two-year price lock, no contract required. If you add a home phone but don’t need the cell phone plan or cable TV, you could pay around $50 per month. Adding monitored home security will cost an additional $30 or $40 per month, before equipment charges.
If you cancel Xfinity service and you're still on a contract, you’ll be subject to an early termination fee (ETF) based on the amount of time left in your contract. The ETF seems to start at $110 and decreases by $10 for each month you’ve had service—so $70 if you’re canceling Xfinity internet service after four months.
Xfinity, like all major internet providers, participates in the taxpayer-funded Affordable Connectivity Program. Certain low-income families with students, seniors, Veterans, and people in some underprivileged communities may be eligible. If you are, you could get home internet with speeds of either 50 Mbps or 100 Mbps for free, since the program pays up to $30 off your bill.
