Is Viasat worth the cost?
Viasat offers a ton of different plans, but availability and pricing depend on your address. The best plans for most people are Viasat’s Unlimited plans, with download speeds up to 150 Mbps and up to 500 GB of high-speed data. Unlimited plans with speeds of 25 Mbps and a minimum of 40 GB of high-speed data and will allow basic web browsing but limited video streaming.
Choosing the fastest plan you can afford will give you the best experience. Viasat costs as much or more than cable or fiber internet plans, and you’ll also have to worry about rationing your high-speed data each month.
Viasat’s 12 Mbps Unlimited plans and budget Liberty plans are too restrictive for most people due to the low caps on priority data. They're also hard to find, depending on where you live.
How Viasat stacks up on value
Overall, we gave Viasat a score of 1.5 out of 5 stars on value because the speed you pay for the price you get is very high compared to other internet types like fiber, cable, and DSL. But Viasat’s value compared to the rest of the satellite internet market is more competitive.
HughesNet offers cheaper 25 Mbps plans, but not as much high-speed data. Starlink isn’t available in as many locations, but has faster upload speeds and lower latency for a similar price to Viasat’s best plans. Viasat’s equipment leasing costs ($14.99 per month) are comparable to HughesNet’s, while Starlink requires you to pay hundreds in upfront costs for equipment.

Cancelation costs for Viasat
To cancel, call Viasat customer service. Viasat’s satellite internet plans typically come with a 24-month service term. If you cancel before the end of the term, you will usually owe $15 for each remaining month of the contract. If you’ve leased a Viasat Wi-Fi Gateway modem and transceiver, you have to return them in undamaged condition within 30 days of cancelation; otherwise, you’ll owe up to $300 in fees.
