Best internet providers in St. Peters, Missouri

If you live in an area of St. Peters with AT&T fiber access, then it’s our top pick for the best overall internet provider in the area. But fiber optic internet is not widely available in St. Peters, Missouri yet, so if you don’t have access to AT&T fiber, then we recommend Spectrum internet for its cable-connected high-speed internet and wide coverage area.

If you want to try your luck with a second fiber option, we also recommend Brightspeed internet, which took over CenturyLink’s service in Missouri and still uses Lumen technology.

How we rank internet providers
We have a robust rating system to score internet service providers overall, but the quality of service could vary city to city. When narrowing down the best providers specific to St. Peters, we considered factors like availability, value, performance, and customer experience. Our top 3 ISP choices in St. Peters, MO

Our top three recommendations for internet providers in St. Peters are AT&T fiber (if you can get it), Spectrum internet, and Brightspeed.

#1: AT&T fiber

AT&T fiber is not widely available in St. Peters—only about one quarter of residents currently have access to it. But if you’re lucky enough to have AT&T fiber available at your address, then it’s our top pick for speedy and reliable internet in the area.

Read our full AT&T internet review.

#2: Spectrum internet

Spectrum internet is much more widely available than AT&T fiber in the St. Peters area. More than 93% of the city is covered. Spectrum’s cable internet plans use an older connection type than fiber optic internet, but it’s still faster and more reliable than DSL. And Spectrum offers high-speed plans in St. Peters that should be more than fast enough for most internet users.

#3: Brightspeed

Brightspeed took over service from CenturyLink in Missouri (including St. Peters) in 2022. It doesn’t have wide coverage in the city, but if you can get access to a fiber plan from Brightspeed, then it’s the second-best fiber option in the area after AT&T.

All internet providers in St. Peters

St. Peters doesn’t have as many internet options as some other St. Louis suburbs. You’re most likely to have access to a plan from either a cable provider like Spectrum internet, or from a fixed wireless provider like T-Mobile 5G Home Internet or Brown Dog Networks.

Most St. Peters residents also have access to satellite internet from providers like Starlink and HughesNet. But because of its high latency, we don’t generally recommend satellite internet unless it’s your only option.

Fastest internet providers in St. Peters

If your address is eligible for AT&T fiber, then you’ll likely have the fastest options available from one of its plans. Spectrum internet also has high-speed plans available in St. Peters, and it’s more accessible than local fiber providers.

How much speed do you need?

When choosing an internet plan, you want to keep all of your activities running smoothly without paying extra for speeds you don't need. At the bare minimum, you need 25 Mbps to do light browsing on one or two devices. Most households with multiple people and multiple devices will want to look for speeds in the 100–500 Mbps range. Learn how much speed your household needs in our guide to internet speed.

Cheapest internet providers in St. Peters

Prices vary depending on which plan and speeds you choose, but Brown Dog Networks is likely to have the cheapest plans available for you in St. Peters. You may also be able to get affordable internet through Verizon Home Internet, which uses a fixed wireless connection (the same technology as your cell phone).

Verizon Home Internet is affordable, but it’s not widely available in St. Peters. Brown Dog Networks has wider coverage in the area, but it may not be as fast or as reliable as Verizon’s service.

Internet options in nearby cities

Available internet providers in nearby cities are pretty similar to St. Peters. They generally include Spectrum and Brown Dog Networks, and they likely also have access to T-Mobile 5G Home Internet. AT&T fiber has unpredictable coverage across the region, but it’s a great option when it’s available. Depending on the address, you may also see options like Verizon Home Internet, Gateway Fiber, i3 Broadband, and Wisper.

What St. Peters residents are saying on Reddit

Since fiber optic internet is not widely available in St. Peters, many St. Peters residents are eagerly watching fiber optic internet expansion in the region. AT&T fiber is currently the most widely available fiber optic option in nearby areas, but Gateway Fiber is slowly expanding its fiber footprint, as are i3 Broadband and Brightspeed.

What parts of the st. Louis area have AT&T fiber? My internet is way too slow and I don't know what to do.

Added:

  • spectrum can get me 1000 mbps down and 30 up. I'll probably do that until I can get fiber

A couple years ago some guys were working near the road near me and said they were putting in lines for fiber. But we still don't have it.

I'm self employed and it's really starting to affect my ability to work and keep my income where it needs to be.

It's supposed to be at 50 mbps but rarely is. Upload speed is usually below 10.

I would love to know for certain if the lines for it are really here or not. And what the hold up is. AT&T hasn't been any help. How can I get in touch with someone that actually knows and will tell me?

It was suggested to me to change to a business acct, isn't faster but an AT&T employee said that there might be less people on it where I live so maybe it would be faster. Something about all residential accts on same ip address and business ones being on a separate one so maybe it would be faster. But I don’t know if that is true or not.

For what its worth I'm in west county, 63017. I'm wondering if I should switch to spectrum or maybe starlink? Or are there any other options?

It was also suggested to try connecting wired instead of wireless but my office is on a different floor than where the internet comes in, I can't imagine dealing with that long of cable going through the house.

Any other suggestions?

There isn't an official AT&T map that will show entire areas. You will not get an answer from any AT&T source about a build-out plan, and it constantly changes. The date for your home literally does not exist. That said, I've found this map to be quite accurate as to where there's fiber coverage right now:

(make sure to click the "fiber" tab on the map). It gets more detailed as you zoom in.

Best internet provider?

Hello. I’ve been living in an apartment complex that provides internet as part of the rent. But an now moving to a house on June 1st, so I am looking for the best wireless internet provider here. Also if anyone knows which cell service is the best here that would also be appreciated. I currently have AT&T and my service is not as good as it was back East.

Originally from Philly, and Verizon Fios internet was the best there, but they don’t offer that service here. Anyway, thank you for your time.

We are in the Tower Grove area if that makes a difference.

Update: Thanks for all the comments. I was able to set up AT&T fiber service for when we move in.

Most helpful response

Local fiber like Gateway or Elite > AT&T Fiber > Spectrum > everything else including AT&T DSL.

For cell service, AT&T is "generally" the best around here but everyone has bad pockets, streets or neighborhoods they just don't serve well. T-Mobile is good too and has filled in a lot. Verizon overall is more so-so, though in STL city proper they have a very dense, very fast 5G network. Verizon might even be best in the city but turns to crap pretty quickly in the suburbs and rural eastern Missouri. T-Mobile used to be similar but has improved since starting work on integrating Sprint.

Spectrum vs AT&T Internet

Spectrum just jumped my bill 33% saying that I was on a promotion that expired, even though I’ve been on the same plan for 8 years and was unaware of any promotion. It’s now $100/month for 500mb internet service. AT&T is offering this same speed at $65/month. Is there any reason not to switch? I know they’re both garbage companies, but does anyone have any reasons I shouldn’t just bounce between them?

Most helpful response

Is it AT&T Fiber? If so, no reason not to bail. It's great service, no contract.

Internet news and infrastructure in St. Peters, MO

St. Peters internet news has largely been centered on the expansion of fiber optic cable and what that might mean for St. Peters residents and their access to high-speed internet. In late 2022, Gateway Fiber announced that it had acquired some grant money to expand fiber optic access to parts of Missouri that have previously been left behind, including St. Peters and the larger St. Charles County, and Lincoln County. (1)

In St. Peters, 98% of homes can get 100 Mbps, 96% can get 250 Mbps, and 65% can get 1 Gbps.

Frequently asked internet questions in St. Peters

It depends. Spectrum offers a different type of internet connection from Google Fiber. Google Fiber uses a fiber optic connection type whereas Spectrum internet uses a cable connection type. We generally prefer fiber optic internet over cable where available, but cable internet is much more accessible and has coverage in more areas than fiber optic internet.

Compare Spectrum and Google Fiber side by side.

Exact pricing will depend on where you live in Missouri. Average internet pricing is, in general, between $55 and $100 per month. That range does not account for bundling with things like cable TV or phone plans. There are also many more expensive internet plans out there, especially if you want high speeds or other premium features.

If you want to cut costs on your internet plan, then you’ll likely also need to cut speed. Spectrum's budget plans start around $30 for 100 Mbps.

Technically, Brown Dog Networks has the widest coverage in St. Peters, Missouri. But as an unlicensed fixed wireless provider, it can be less reliable than a fiber optic or cable internet provider. Spectrum’s cable internet has wide availability in St. Peters and will likely be faster and more reliable where you live.
